Taking a vacation in the United States seems pretty cut and dry. What are the first places you think about? Well, we’ve asked several people over the years and the usual responses are:

* Florida
* Myrtle Beach
* Las Vegas
* New York
* Chicago
* Washington D.C.
* New Orleans
* California
* Hawaii

This leaves out 41 other states where vacationing can occur. Whether it’s the East or West Coast, and even the central part of the country, many people are missing out on history, enjoyable activities, and even out of country vacations. Here are a few places you should consider vacation that do not include any of the aforementioned locations:

* Treasures of the Four Corners – Very few people have ever heard of this area, but it is one of the most culturist places in the United States. The Anasazi Indians resided here for centuries that now include 16,000 archaeological sites. Found in Manitou Springs, the cliff dwellings give us a glimpse of what life was like in the U.S. long before Americans settled here. If you take this vacation, be sure to get an Indian guide. They have several magnificent stories to share.

* Fire Island, New York – Traveling by ferry across the Great South Bay is the only way to reach Fire Island. In all, it is thirty-two miles long with beautiful beaches for everyone to enjoy. Best of all; there are no cars allowed, so you must rent or take your own bicycles. If you’ve been to Mackinaw Island in Michigan, it’s very similar.

* Ghost Tours at Belcourt Castle – It is said there have been ghosts living in the Belcourt Castle since 1956. While the ghost tour is a once in a lifetime experience, the castle is full of historic artwork, furniture, armor, and stained glass. We’ve never heard of anyone talk about going to Rhode Island for a vacation, but Belcourt Castle owner, Harle Tinney, will quickly change your mind.

* Anna Marie Island – When people take vacations to Florida, Anna Marie Island is never really considered a choice. In fact, most people don’t even know it exists. It’s the perfect getaway if you don’t want to deal with crowds and tons of people on the beach. The entire location is made up of 60% beach, and the only major franchise in there is Subway. It’s one of the most relaxing destination in all of Florida. Plus, the locals are quite friendly and personable.

* Teton Range, Idaho – Do you know anyone who has ever traveled to Idaho? Most people haven’t, but Teton Range could be a new place to stay. It’s been around for years and utilizes a combination of history and geology to be considered a nostalgic part of the United States. While it’s considered to be on the border of Wyoming, most people address it as being in Idaho.

The most popular concept behind this location is that its elevation is much higher than most mountain ranges. In all it is around 6,000 feet above the valley floor. If you love the outdoors or scenic views, this is one you will remember for eternity.<
