Vacations in North America – What’s on the East Coast?

Anytime people discuss vacations on the East Coast, they immediately think of Myrtle Beach, Washington D.C., Boston, or New York. However, there are things to do all over the eastern part of the country. In fact, we believe patrons of Chicago would have plenty to say about it.

If you’re not sure where to go or what you will do, here are a few ideas to help you get started:

#1 Military Vacations

You don’t have to be in the military to enjoy the history surrounding it. A lot of folks will travel to Arlington Cemetery to see all the fallen soldiers from previous wars. Others would rather head to Gettysburg and see the battlefields associated with the Civil War.

We are avid military vacationers, but the trips are not always a high profile excursion. Our last weekend stint was down in Kentucky around Somerset (close to Lake Cumberland). This is where the Battle of Mill Springs was fought and it offered a small museum with an interactive scenic tour. So, don’t limit yourself, because there are several places to see.

#2 New York

Vacationing to New York is something more and more people are doing today. One of the biggest reasons is so they can see the finished “World Trade Center” monuments from 9/11. It’s a sight to see, and if you want to pay your respects, it really is a lifetime experience.

However, there are tons of things to do in New York. A lot of Americans have never seen the Statue of Liberty or been to the top of it. Plus, there are Broadway shows, various cultural shops, and plenty of night-life entertainment for everyone to enjoy. Don’t forget about the New Year’s Eve bash if you plan to go at the end of each year.

#3 The Beach

Even though Myrtle Beach is one of the most populated vacation spots in the United States, there are plenty of other beach vacations on the East Coast. If you haven’t been to Hilton Head, it’s one of the most overlooked areas on the map. Home to the Harbourtown golf course, Hilton Head provides everything from bike rentals to magnificent cuisines.

However, a beach doesn’t always mean warm weather. If you love lighthouses and want to experience a cooler vacation, Ocean City, Maryland can provide both benefits. It’s a place that several people travel too, but most people never think about when discussing beach vacations.

#4 Florida

We probably don’t have to tell you a lot about all the beaches in Florida. Whether it’s Daytona Beach, Key West, Delray, or Pass-a-Grille Beach, all of them can provide warm weather and beautiful tans. One thing to consider is the amount of people at each location. We threw Delray in there because it’s less populated, so it’s easier to relax.

There are plenty of other vacations along the east coast. Everything from skiing to casinos is available, so it really depends on your preference. Just remember to keep an open mind and there will be plenty of opportunities on the East Coast.<
